It is difficult to give a fixed number of stars for the Crater Lake Lodge. If it was located anywhere else in the world it would really only deserve two stars despite the great staff in our opinion. The rooms are outdated. The beds and pillows are poor. The brass finish on our bathroom faucet was mostly worn off. However, everything was clean and well maintained. The reason people stay here is obviously for Crater Lake and it is difficult to beat the convenience and the amazing surroundings of the lodge. If we had to do it again we would stay at the lodge. There are rocking chairs in the back with an incredible view. Food at the Crater Lake Lodge Dining Room was very good -- especially for a park -- and service was excellent despite a new hostess on duty who did not seem to understand customer service. Service at the dining room and great hall were excellent.

During our return visit to the Crater Lake Lodge, we stayed the night. I made a one night reservation months before when we were planning our October trip to the "nearby" Oregon Shakespeare Festival. All we had to do was drive over to Crater Lake from Ashland (via Medford and Prospect) and then drive Home (via Klamath Falls) the next day. It also turned out to be the last weekend that the Lodge was open for the Season. I reserved a Deluxe Lakeside Queen (with Shower Only). The Room itself was a 3 Star experience at best. It was small, the bed was way too soft, and there was a fair amount of noise from the Lodge's observation deck directly below. It wasn't the kind of room that you would want to linger and settle in. Desk service was also slow, inefficient, and with the exception of the guy who took our bags to the room, surprisingly disengaged. I guess I expected a little more customer service for this rare premium Lodge opportunity. On the other hand, the Lodge's Livingroom (especially the Fireplace part of the Lounge) was comfortable, cozy, and relaxing, with the handsome interior architectural accents. Gayle loved it. We also enjoyed several relaxed conversations with various other guests and agreed that this setting would be even better if it was snowing outside. So why isn't this place open in the Winter? Then there's the Neighbourhood and the stunning Lake view out our window and on the Lodge's deck. I'll never get tired of the blue water contrasted against the walls of the caldera and Wizard Island. We're not sure when we'll be back this way again, but Gayle and I both agree that our short stay at the Crater Lake Lodge was worth the splurge, warts and all.

This isn't really a critique, but more of a head's up for potential Crater Lake lodge customers. My family and I went here for a 2 night vacation. We planned and booked this place a year in advance. We had an okay time, but were pretty disappointed with a few things. We got a deluxe room on the second floor (supposedly) with a lake view. Things you may want to know first: 1. In our room, there WAS a view of the lake if you consider hanging your head out of a kiddie-corner window on the side of the room a view (sarcasm intended) 2. No AIR CONDITIONING. This is huge. We went in July, and although it's 10 million miles up in altitude on the mountain, it still gets hot. The room didn't really get cool of until 4am in the morning, even with windows open and a fan blowing. My wife, my daughter, and I didn't sleep much in the heat. So prepare for sleeplessness. 3. No coffee maker :( 4. Room seemed really small for the price. A small love seat would have been nice to put our 7 year old on instead of blankets on the floor. We had 3 young kids, and stated so on the booking. 5. Lodge restaurant WAY overpriced. The most inexpensive dinner runs about $28.00. We chose to forego dinner, but had breakfast instead. The menu prices were a little more reasonable for breakfast. 6. Mosquitos are ruthless and plentiful! This is not the fault of the lodge, but it's something you should prepare for. The good stuff: 1. The lodge and restaurant are beautiful and very clean. 2. The staff is friendly enough. 3. Wifi (although very slow) 4. Crater Lake 5. The breakfast was tasty, and the portions were also good. 6. Our room was super quiet with a comfortable bed. Good blankets too.

We stayed down at Union Creek resort but wanted to get an earlier start to the day so came up to the lodge for breakfast (opens an hour earlier than Beckies). The food was standard. We had the Crater Lake Breakfasts which seemed pretty standard as far as a large cooked breakfast goes. Highlights - the biscuit and jelly were superb - the service was really great - obviously the view is the most amazing of any breakfast anywhere I would definitely come back here again, mostly as a result of the good service and the view.

Location, location, location! The lodge has a beautiful view of the caldera and the lake and that is why you should stay here. Rooms are small and heat isn't strong enough though. The lounge and common areas are a bit cramped and tight on seating, so if you come during high season, better hope the weather is nice so people can spread out more and enjoy the outdoors. Food was just okay and service was hit and miss. Definitely won't be able to check in early so plan accordingly. If you come to the lake you should definitely stay here, just don't expect too much other than amazing views if the weather is nice.

This review is for the logde excluding the restaurant. The lodge is old and rustic. It is I should say overpriced for the size and the amenities included in the room. There is no tv,wifi, telephone in the room. We stayed on the 3rd floor and upon stepping out of the elevator there is a musty smell of something old.The room is facing the parking lot and at night it is total darkness out there. Room was stuffy and lacks the much needed comfort. The room and the hallway feels haunted to me. Actually, the entire lodge feels haunted to me. I have a very restless night and couldnt fall asleep.

Gotta say I expected more from this place because of the prices they charge. First off we arrived early at noon & were told to come back at 2:30 pm. We toured around in our car for a couple hours & came back at 2:30. We were told rooms weren't ready and that check-in was at 4:00 pm. We stayed around in the great room & lobby. We saw some people getting their room keys at about 3:15 pm. I was in view of the people at the check-in counter & yet they didn't call me. So after about ten minutes more of waiting I went up & asked for my room keys & they said, "Oh yes, we just got a call from house cleaning & here are your keys." They knew I was there, why didn't they call me over? Room was $230. a nite. We get to our room & check it out. One drinking glass was very unclean. I took it downstairs, gave the glass to a man at the check-in counter, as there are no phones in the rooms. I asked to have housekeeping replace the glass & he said he would do so. I went to our room some time later & two housekeeping women were just arriving. They placed a extra towel that I asked for & I had to remind them of the fresh clean glass. I told them the other glass was dirty. They seemed totally surprised. I described it to them & they didn't seem to believe me. As I walked out they were whispering something & then I heard laughter. I couldn't believe the lack of maturity. Where are they "Xanterra Concessionaires" finding these employees?? Breakfast: Some people working the check-in we're working breakfast. We get seated & were greeted promptly by our waiter. We ordered & waited 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile the people who came in after us were being served. We got our food five minutes later. My wife got a fruit/yogurt parfait which she liked. I got the Crater Lake Benedict which was overcooked & the potatoes were old & cold. I sent it back & when I got it back it had only one egg instead of two. I guess I took too big a bite when I originally got my order to see how my small eggs were cooked. The chef determined I had eaten my portion of eggs already without thinking I had to wait for my cold overcooked breakfast. Dinner: This was a total turn around. You need reservations. We had reservations & were greeted nicely by the hostess and we're seated with a view of the lake. The wait staff came by promptly, as did our waiter. We ordered mussels, ham/bean soup, lamb chops cooked perfect. Our wine was excellent! All the food was delicious. We ordered creme brûlée & coffee & it was nice. All in all dinner was excellent! $180. plus 20% tip. You could say there are inconsistencies with the staff & the preparing of food. In a place like this, with what they charge, the whole experience needs to be well coordinated. I think staff needs to be trained to greet everyone properly and the food has to be delicious all the time. We probably won't be back because there is so much of the world left to see. Happy trails to all.

Three stars for the view. 1 Star for the food. Couldn't stay - learned that 8 to 12 months lead time is necessary to book a room. Ok - the rockers on the back are fantastic to sit and enjoy. Just realize that the metal "fence" - (for safety?) is reminiscent of watching a starry starry night from your jail cell. Can't you do that with plexiglass? Just Sayin... Anyway - the food. Too late for lunch, too early for dinner. Appetizers and soups on the deck is the only option. Clam Chowder. Little flavor and over cooked - potatoes were mushy. Fruit/Cheese plate. OK - but really? 4 Keebler crackers is all? Really? Strawberries were borderline. Edible, but barely. Grapes were inedible - old - soft. The birds enjoyed them while we waited for the server to pick up the plates - that was fun to watch! Chicken Quesadilla ok... not much flavor ... but would have been better had it made it out side right after coming off the grill. $40 for so-so food. Bummer. Not once did staff ask how the food was. View was fantastic - visit with other guests and visitors from Germany was enjoyable. Glad we brought a bottle wine. You can enjoy your own on the outside deck without a corkage fee. Score! Yes ... we will be back. For the view - air - sun - and rocking on the deck!

We showed up at 3pm on a Sunday in September and got a room because of a cancellation. Lucky us! Huge room on 3rd floor on the back side was fine for us. Dinner prices were in line with big city prices and the food did not disappoint. Slept well. Those that complain about no AC have obviously not ever stayed in any lodge in any National Park... Time your visit for spring or fall and you'll be just fine sans AC. Smaller crowds too.

Rating the restaurant only (couldn't get a reservation for the lodge): dinner pretty good, although quite overpriced ($32 for the pasta special??). Breakfast one of the most unpleasant meals ever, though to be fair we were there just at the point of transitioning to fall): had to ask three times for a second cup of coffee, and the requested third cup never materialized; entrees served more than five minutes after the neighboring table's ordered at the same time, and arrived nearly stone cold. Service so bad that I stiffed waitress, and I can't remember the last time I did that.

Made the mistake of doing dinner - appetizers and dessert in the lounge. It wasn't terrible, well only one thing was terrible. Cup of chowder was very good. The cheese plate - barely okay. It tasted like last minute they went to 7-11 and bought the cheese. It wasn't terrible, but it was a long way from what I would expect to be served in someone's home. The Brie, for instance, had no real softness or twang. The crackers were keeblers or some other box ordinary. The strawberries were DELICIOUS. The rest of the fruit was okay. The duck mushroom spring rolls. Really? I should have known better. Not terrible, ..... But no ingredient really shone, and the flavor was on the low side of good - too fussy. But the worst was the three berry cobbler. SUGAR, SWEET and abominable. It was terrible. How can one mess up berries - too much sugar, way too much. The topping was mixed in with the berries. I could tell because of the texture, otherwise it offered nothing. What a mess. And the whipped cream? Was it real? It didn't taste real. AVOID THAT mess. Service was friendly. Didn't see a whole lot of server, but I was there to relax. Service was fine for me.

The lodge itself is great. It is exactly what you would want out of a lodge at a National park. Rooms were expensive, but the location was prime. When we booked the room, we asked about differences among the rooms, and they suggested a great one--large with amazing views of the lake (221, if I remember right). They had all of the amenities that you would need and none that would detract from the park experience (no TV, radio, but did have free WiFi). The view from the lodge is quite nice and it looked like there were trails and other viewing points nearby. The reason for the slightly low (3-star) rating relates to the restaurant within the lodge. The food there was subpar and did not taste fresh at all, though the cost was very high. The entrees that we tried (bison meatloaf and a fish special of snapper that were both around $30) were relatively bland and unremarkable. I couldn't tell that the meat used in the meatloaf was bison, and the fish, a Snapper dish, tasted primarily of the seasoning used on it. Also, there was a steep corking fee of $15 per bottle and a fee to share an entree ($5, I believe). The dessert we had was a three-layer chocolate cake that tasted like it had been frozen. It was dry and unappealing. The problem is that there are really no other dining alternatives nearby. With a monopoly, they will continue to make subpar food at high costs. I say all this not to rant, but just to recommend that anyone staying at the lodge try hard to bring their own cooler and bags of food to avoid having to eat at the restaurant. You will save money and won't be disappointed. As an aside, the boating and Wizard Island tours were great. Everyone should visit this park and stay at the lodge at least 1 night (but not eat at the restaurant until they shape up).

Wow, this place is really amazing. Every room has a view of the lake and there is nothing like watching the sunset and sunrise from the comfort of your own room. I found the rooms to be clean big and very comfortable. Our friends booked a whole year ahead of time so just plan ahead if you want to stay here. I think I want to make this a yearly excursion. Crater Lake is take your breath away beautiful. The veranda overlooks the lake and there are tons of rocking chairs to sit in and take in the view and have a cocktail. Paradise in our own backyard!

Staff is old school but OK to good. Menu needs Gordon Ramseys help, corn bread was like a hockey puck and they don't know how to cook a steak. But the crab cakes were good.

If you happen to be stopping by Crater Lake National Park and you can make a reservation at Crater Lake Lodge, then it is well worthwhile. We reserved it 2 days in advance, and we got a room with a view of the lake. The staff members are very friendly. There are chairs outside the lodge where you can sit there and look at the beautiful blue lake until the sunset. On top of that, there are servers who come out and you can order a drink while looking at the lake. Watching the sunset is the best part of staying here. The food here is really good. It is cheaper at breakfast time. By the way, you need to be staying there to access wifi. The GPS on google maps does not take you to the correct place when you are trying to reach the Crater Lake Lodge. You should get some clear direction from the Crater Lake Lodge as to how to get there from where you are before you start driving.

Calling to check availability does help - I was so fortunate when I called less than a week ago inquiring about a room for this weekend. He didn't laughed at me, and proceed to check day by day if there's a room available for either the lodge or the cabins. ONE room left! I'll take it! This is after checking the online reservation site, that shows every single day booked til the end of Sept. We got a deluxe lake side room for a not-so-cheap price of $230, but I was splurging since I was taking my mom to see Crater Lake for her very first time. Room was nice, probably not nice if you compare to a $230 room in the city, but considering it's the only hotel within the park, it's worth it. View from the room was awesome... if it were not for the smoke from the fire South and North of us.. oh well... I knew there's no TV or phone, so getting free WiFi was definitely an unexpected surprise for me. Limited to 2 devices only though. The free coffee/tea in the morning @ the lobby is a nice touch. You can enjoy that while sitting in one of the rocking chairs on the veranda overlooking the lake. They weren't kidding when they remind you to make dinner reservations. I made mine the day before and the first available time is 8:30pm! It's not too bad if you're not hungry, because that's right after sunset. Dinner was what I expected from these kind of places. Considering they're the only one serving dinner in the park, it's actually not bad. Bottom line, if you want to splurge while visiting Crater Lake, staying in the lodge is recommended!

After reading several reviews about the possibility of not getting your own private bathroom, I was terrified. We booked a year in advance, and got the deluxe two queen room (even though we didn't need two beds!) because the rumor is that the larger rooms have their own bathrooms. We got room 303, which thankfully, had a full size bathroom! The room was rustic with gorgeous views of the lake. The sink was in the bedroom, which was a little weird. The bed was comfy. Most importantly, the room and bathroom were both clean!!! Definitely not your typical highway motel. No wifi, tv, phone, or hair dryer (but you can get one from the front desk). There's an alarm clock and that's about it.

It is hard not to love the Crater Lake Lodge. It is a classic example of the grand lodges of the national parks, and it is in a phenomenal setting. We love the national parks, and we enjoy staying the the national park lodges. Like with so many other lodges, you are definitely paying top dollar for the setting, the building, and the history. Also like many great lodges, the service is just OK, the food unremarkable, and the pipes and floors creek. There is no AC in summer, but that's to be expected in a historic lodge. If you can look at the price as a donation to one of our beautiful Nat'l Parks, and if you have a realistic expectation of the services, then you'll enjoy your stay. Take plenty of mosquito spray and you can't beat the view from the rim patio as you sip the drink of your choice! :-)

It is worth staying at the lodge for the astounding view and access to hiking right out your door. If it were located anywhere else, it would go out of business due to the crumbling infrastructure, unbelieveably poor service, and exhorbitant prices. The rooms are somewhat rundown but clean, have no AC, inadequate heat, and few modern conviences. We expected this and allowed for it due to the historic nature of the building, but we didn't expect the power to go out half a dozen times for hours at a pop with no outwardly visible reason. The staff is vacuously inattentive. There was no bellman to help with bags, though one is advertised. Getting a simple cup of coffee in the morning is a monumental experience taking a good 20 minutes. Breakfast, drinks, or lunch takes at least 30 minutes from placing your order, and it can take just as long to get a server's attention, all accompanied by grumbling and eye-rolling from the server. The one bright spot is that the dinner service and food was good, no doubt due to the heavy tips the dinner servers get. All in all I would stay there again, but I would bring plenty of my own meals and not depend upon the staff for even the most basic needs.

The view is unparalleled and the front desk service was okay. Made the reservation a year in advance, because this place fills very fast. The room was comfortable and the ambience was nice. My biggest gripe is the attitudes of some of the employees. While some were friendly and understanding ("Thank you for your patience, etc."), others were downright inhospitable. For example, complimentary coffee should be just that. Why on earth should an employee serving coffee from a pump carafe feel the need to rap their knuckles on the counter if you don't give them money? Pushing for tips is disgusting behavior and has no place in our National Parks.

  • Malinda M.

Some of the staff were friendly, but most of them seemed uninterested in displaying a friendly atmosphere. The food in the lodge was pretty good. Just make reservations, because the gate keeper at the restaurant entrance will not make any exceptions. They told us not to worry about reservations earlier that day, then a large party scheduled and all of a suden everyone had amnesia. The manager luckily, was a lot nicer! It's not the lodges fault, but the room was eery feeling and my husband said he saw a silhouette of a person walk by the mirror. Shortly after, a bottle of water flew off the chair and onto the floor. We were in room #103. Needless to say, we slept the rest of the night with the lights on. Neither one of us are paranormal experts, but that was the closest to something unexplained I ever want to get. The view on the deck is incredible and they have rocking chairs overlooking the lake as well. Even if you don't stay overnight, stopping by to sit on the deck and enjoy the view is worth it.

I had a lovely time exploring the Lodge on my first visit to Crater Lake. My family and I enjoyed the view from the back porch as we sipped lovely local beers and wines. I am looking forward to my next visit and this time I will stay here at the Lodge!

BOOK EARLY! Yes, it's a little pricey and the accommodations aren't luxurious, but there's nothing like watching the sun rise over Crater Lake from your bedroom! Plus, you really don't have many other options unless you want to stay in a cabin or camp. I highly suggest making a reservation months in advance and calling back daily to check for cancellations if they're booked. You should definitely call, as the rep on the phone was able to find me a room despite the website telling me they were sold out. The restaurant greatly exceeded my expectations. The prices are reasonable despite the lack of competition, they try to use local sustainable produce, and the food is excellent. I had the orange glazed duck with saffron risotto which was wonderful. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

I was really looking forward to this vacation. I was driving from Oregon Dunes and called up twice to confirm that my room has the shower. I also had booked the most expensive room and my booking had the request for shower. When I checked in my check-in card had my room switched from 219 to 401(they have printed check-in cards and my room number was scratched and overwritten. The new room was really crappy, claustrophobic with shorter ceilings and no guess what? NO SHOWERS. They basically ruined my vacation and I paid $235 for the worst room. Remember this is a Deluxe Lakeside W/ 1 Queen Bed one of their most expensive ones. They offered me a breakfast coupon as apology after ruining the stay experience!! They were full, so no room switching was feasible. The check-in guy just said sorry and asked me to contact the manager!! Yes, that was the level of their customer service. The manager wasn't even onsite at the property. I felt discriminated. I was a single female with brown skin color traveling alone and had a foreign name on the booking. So easy to harass I guess! Waste of time money and energy and a ruined vacation experience. Avoid at every cost if you are non-white, foreigner or female only party.

We are currently staying at the lodge. It is exactly what you would expect of a rustic lodge. We are in a room that has a full bathroom. Of course it does not have t.v. Who needs it with this view? I am in room 304 and I have Internet access (obviously). My phone also has service. Not sure why people are saying they do not! We have a great view of the lake! Everyone is very courteous and helpful at the desk and the bellhop. Try and reserve early if you can. We booked 6 months ago. I would definitely recommend.

Stayed here the night of 10/16/2010. Last night of the season. The room was pleasant and comfortable. We've stayed at many National Park Lodges and this one was ok. Perhaps we're spoiled with Yellowstone. Anyway, the room was good and the check-in staff was pleasant. No TV's in the room and this was nice. Went to the bar area for a nightcap and to relax after a long drive down from Portland. Ordered a drink and two scoops of ice cream. I believe the end of season was getting to our server, Heath. He just didn't have much enthusiasm. Breakfast in the morning was great. Our server, Joy, was very pleasant. They were out of bacon and weren't expecting a delivery until next May. We did without. We drove around the lake and essentially had the park to ourselves. Had a great time.

We dined at the Lodge on July 31. The atmosphere and service were excellent. The salad was perfect and tasty as were the martinis and dessert. However, the main courses (Roasted Rainbow Trout, Hazelnut Chicken Breast, Bison Meat Loaf and Halibut were all overcooked and dry. For an average price of $30 each, they were not worth it. We have dined at the Lodge for several years and always come away not satisfied with the main courses when price is considered.

They have a monopoly on hotel with view of crater lake and thus charged a higher than expected price. I don't mind it since the view out of the bedroom and bathroom windows were out of this world. The room however was tiny and have no TV! Now I understand that I'm in a national park and should be one with nature. But I ended up missing Da Bears beat the snot out of Tiny Romo (5 ints!) as a result.

Beautiful old lodge with all that one should expect of such (smallish rooms, not all modern conveniences), but views to die for and a staff that beats all park hotels we've ever stayed in (including the Ahwahnee). No in room coffee maker, but wonderful free coffee in lobby with cheerful staff person at 6AM for sunrise photos. No TV, but who would look at it with THE Lake outside. The dining room is a classic old log lodge charmer with good food and, again, wonderful service. Will be repeat customers for decades to come.

Cozy, beautiful from the outside, great location. The only option available in Crater Lake, though, so you're stuck. Stuck paying a high price for a crappy, unrenovated room, eating at their shitty restaurant, and dealing with a lot of crowds. The maid also did a very poor job of cleaning our room (missing tissues, body wash, garbage found in the room...). Also, from what I could see, average age of patrons here is ~60.

We came in on the north rim road. Highly recommend that you drive it during the daylight. The area become pitch black at night. Many areas of the road have no side rails. We were able to change our room to the main lodge. So thankful. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful with all questions. The room is small but it is enough. The only complaint, if you are on the first floor. You must inspect the bathroom curtain. Our was not long enough. So there was a good inch to two gap on the bottom, with clear glass on the other side. Do understand the rooms have NO tv! Neither of us were real hungry. At night, you can get salads, soups or a quesadilla in the great room without dinning in the main room. Drinks too. Dinner is reservations only! They offer free coffee and tea in the morning. They offer wifi. Not the fastest. We were unable to watch YouTube videos about the crater without it crashing a few times. They do offer a ton of board games and card games at the front desk. So put down the electronics and play a game. We enjoyed Battleship! :)

Booked a room two weeks in advance but was told that we got lucky. Checked in at 4p and the dining room was packed. We sat outside and had an appetizer instead (casear salad, bean quesadilla, and creme brûlée for dessert). Spent $44 on appetizers including pale ale beer and amaretto sour. Expect x2 of the cost if dine inside the restaurant. Beautiful lodge with breathtaking view of the Crater Lake. Room was small for the price but we were outside most of the day. Did I mention that the view was breathtaking? It's a slice of heaven and we were in for a treat. The breakfast we had in the dining room was ok. Our kids on the other hand loved their pancakes and couldn't get enough of it. Our waiter was very friendly and tend our needs in timely manner. Mosquitoes, Mosquitoes, and Mosquitoes. This was the only downfall during our stay in the Lodge. On our next visit, an insect repellent spray will be a necessity.

We did not stay at the lodge overnight but we did have breakfast and dinner in the dining room. We walked right in for breakfast but had to make reservations for dinner. Breakfast was pretty generic, eggs, bacon, and fruit, but it was good. Everything was prepared just right, and we had nothing to complain about. For dinner, I had the portabello entree and the boyfriend had the salmon. Both dishes were excellent but it was an expensive meal (breakfast seemed more reasonable, FYI), which is to be expected given the lack of dining options in the park. The next nearest place to eat is either at the Rim Village Cafe, which is mostly grab-and-go type fare or the Annie Creek Restaurant in Mazama Village. The food at the lodge is definitely better than either of those places. The weekend we were here, the weather was pretty nasty but when the fog lifted, the view was spectacular. The lodge is beautiful and cozy inside. There's also an area off to the left when you walk in, a small exhibit where you can learn about the history of the lodge. That being said, this isn't the only spot with spectacular views if you're willing to drive around the lake.

Wow, such a surprising disappointment. People wait years to get a room overlooking this amazing lake, so I was thrilled when we got a room the same week we wanted to go... with two days notice. NICE... We get to the Lodge and it was all we hoped for. The staff was nice and our room was ready on time. Nice... We got to the room, dropped our stuff and headed out to explore. One can't go wrong taking the time to experience this amazing wonder. After our hike we grabbed a rocking chair and just continued to enjoy the view. Ordered a couple drinks and a cheese plate and began our wind-down. The items were a bit over-priced, but not more than expected. We went back to the room to grab a quick shower... which flooded the bathroom floor... uh, housekeeping... There was a lose part on the shower head that was blowing mind-numbing amounts of water everywhere. Tell me, how do they clean a room and not notice something this major? Oh wait, given the 'film' on the glasses in the room and the broken screen, obviously that question answers itself. On our way to dinner, which we had to make a reservation for, we stopped off at the front desk to ask them for fresh towels and to let them know there was a flood, and could they fix it. Again, the amazing gal at the front desk said she would get maintenance right on it. Dinner.... Oh geeze.... We were waited on but a great guy named Arthur, he was great at his job. It wasn't that busy, but service was slow. We ordered an muscles to get the evening started, and a bottle of wine. Those came without a hitch, although the wine had a 200% mark up... high for even the best of places. Oh well, it was good anyway. We ordered dinner, and it took a while but it got there. My husbands meal was ok, duck, one piece cooked perfect, the other over-done... but mine... of course, right... a steak, ordered med-rare... came to the table very well done, everything else on the plate was cold.. so I let Arthur know, he apologized and went to get a plate done right. 2nd plate comes, yes, my husband is almost done with his meal at this point... and it is raw... I am not talking a little pink, I am talking full on, barely skimmed the fire, raw... Not a chance I am eating that. Again Arthur apologizes and returns it to the chef. By now the husband is all done, we are 2 hours into this adventure of a meal and I have lost my $40 a plate appetite. Whatever, pay the $100 tab for dinner and lets go enjoy a much needed sleep. ERRRRRCCCCHHHHH.... this is the WORST bed I have ever slept in. Neither of us got any rest, and by morning we just wanted to grab a shower and get outside and enjoy some trails. I go to the shower, reach in to turn it on... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The fix for the shower was to remove the head and leave it on the ground. Oh yes, I got to shower with a handheld shower head. Time to scoot out of here... same girl at the front desk, so I quietly tell her about our evening and the SHOWER fix. She too apologizes and take $50 off the bill. Think we will get some breakfast before we go. It was ok, but not a $12 meal by any sense of the word. All in... $300+ for the worst over-night experience we have ever had. Best part.... we can do Crater Lake again and sleep some place else... reminding ourselves to pack a lunch. On a completely different note: I over-heard many employees taking about the company changes and how many of them weren't going to be coming back next season. That might explain a few things... but my pocket-book didn't think that mattered!

The Lodge is an inspiring structure with a storied history. Too bad it doesn't live up to its reputation. The 'per night' price should tell you that you are going to be in for a treat. The view from their front verandah is spectacular and was perhaps the single highlight that stood out. But in the spirit of a 'natural experience' the Lodge does away with amenities that one should find in most $70.00 motels. There was no television, refrigerator or telephone. Fair enough, but then they could have spent some of their savings on other upgrades. The bathroom had a gaping hole where apparently some device had once been attached. There was a hole in our room carpet and the hallway carpets were well past their prime. The decor in the room was less than inspiring. The restaurant was just about average. There are probably at least 50 restaurants in Portland that serve better fare at less expensive prices. Additionally, our seats were given to another couple because the maître d' didn't check the names correctly when she came to escort the other couple to our seats. Not a huge problem but just indicative of marginal service at a place that should have been superior. And finally, there was an issue with the reservations for the boat tour. We did not find out until we arrived at the Lodge that the boat dock was perhaps an hour drive from the hotel (due to road work). When we approached the desk for assistance the staff was much too hasty to say "you didn't read the instructions". But we had read the instructions. The instructions tell you that it takes 45 minutes to walk down to the boat dock, but nowhere did it say that the boat dock was an hour drive from the Lodge. In fact we had made reservations on-line months ago so we could avoid just these kinds of problems. How difficult can it be for the hotel or the boat company (the same organization) to indicate, on their website, that the boat dock is some distance from the Lodge so guests can plan their trip more efficiently? And we were not the only people who experienced this omission as we heard more than one couple complain about the same issue. So 'right hand', please try to let the 'left hand' know what it should be doing. The next time we go to Crater Lake we will neither stay nor dine at the Lodge.

4 stars. The verandah offers the best views of Crater Lake - no question about it. One of the best places to photograph the lake or if you are interested in photographing the star trails at night - the verandah is a good option. This is a historic building, so expect things to be from the past - no telephone etc, but that is expected. The room was comfortable and fairly clean. Taking a star off, since the tub was a little dirty with a big ball of hair in it.

Nice accommodations for a national park. The rooms are small but you're probably not planning to be in the room very much. The bed was comfy. We had breakfast in be dining room, which was good. The only complaint was the hostess and dining manager wouldn't write down a list for people waiting for tables, and wouldn't acknowledge people waiting in line to check in. That was weird. Overall a good place to stay - you can't beat the view of the lake from the deck!

Full bar. Seated a crew of 8 just before closing. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. If you get out this was I suggest stopping in. Did I mention the fact Crater Lake can be seen from the dining room?

Horrible restaurant ok rooms. Made a dinner reservation a week in advance and they couldn't find it when we arrived. Had to wait an hour to be seated and when we asked who didn't show up for our original reservation time they found our reservation because our name was misspelled. Food was not good. Meat was over done, potatoes and veggies were cold and we waited an hour after being seated to get our food at 10 pm. All of this for $50 per person. I will never stay here again. This has to be one of the worst resorts ever. Make it a day trip. Don't even think about staying if you need to eat here. There is nothing else near here to eat. You are stuck with over priced badly prepared food and incompetent service. The manager was completely unhelpful.

Stayed at the Crater Lake Lodge, OR, had to book the room in 10 months in advance. Room had a fan, no A/C, no fridge or microwave. The lakeside view was amazing. Went to the restaurant for dinner, ordered the citrus Duck and it was delicious. Crispy skin and juicy meat. GF had filet mignon and crab cake. For desert we had Creme brûlée for her bday. Everything was yummy.

After making our reservation one year ago, we were stoked to make a quick visit to Crater Lake Lodge! Our drive from Portland was about 5 hours. That was 2 hours down I-5 to Eugene, then 3 hours of lots of up -and-down along the mostly lonely mountain highways. I suggest getting gasoline and food near Eugene, before you leave the I-5 area. Check-in was excellent and warm! Our room was larger than I expected, and very nice. The room cost $223.99 + tax $20.16. We had room 301. The views of Crater Lake are just fantastic! The lake is such an amazing spectacle, it makes you just stare at it constantly! Simply walking along the walkways along the edge of the lake is really something. Bring binoculars if you have 'em. We only had one meal during our brief overnight visit, dinner. The prices are somewhat high, but we thought the vegetarian items were very good, I also had an excellent shrimp cocktail that was perfect. The service was friendly and had it together! Our total for dinner for 2... $80 plus tip. Don't forget that it can get really cool up here. Temps were down to the 30's at night, this was July! We also found many mosquitoes when the sun went down, so many that we went inside, to watch the stars out our windows! We thought we'd enjoy the veranda area, which is rocking chairs that overlook the lake, but this area seemed much like a bar to us. Which is cool if you like bars... it's a fairly trafficked public place to sit. Checkout was also uneventful. This is a great experience! Here's a live photo of the lake: nps.gov/webcams-crla/cam…

I'm rating this lodge for the overall experience of staying here at Crater Lake. The lodge is quaint and charming and sits on the edge of the Crater Lake rim. The views are spectacular and everything here is so peaceful. The lodge itself is charming and preserves a lot of the features of the original lodge after it was extensively remodeled 20-some years ago. There is a lot of wood used inside with large fireplaces in the main rooms. To a person, the staff was friendly and professional and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Our room was on the fourth floor and part of the ceiling followed the slope of the roof which made for charming dormers and a window seat overlooking the parking lot and the snow-covered fields beyond (no lake-side rooms available for us). The bathroom was really cute and had a genuine claw-footed bathtub instead of a shower. It was kind of fun to take a bath again like when I was a little kid. Thankfully there was plenty of hot water to be had. They also have a collection of board games you can play sitting inside in the great hall, enjoying a drink or perhaps an appetizer. Some features I really enjoyed about this place was the sustainable food choices on the menu, the free coffee in the morning, and perhaps surprisingly, the lack of television, cell phone reception and music throughout. The place was quiet like nothing else. If you stood outside for a moment the only thing you could hear aside from perhaps another guest was the birds chirping and the wind in the trees. If you need a peaceful retreat this is the place to go. The only downside I can think of was that the mattress wasn't firm enough and I ended up with a backache. The natural beauty here is truly stunning and the veranda outside the lodge offers rocking chairs perfect for just sitting back and enjoying the lake. Overall I've stayed in nicer hotel rooms and had better food in a hotel restaurant but put together this was a great place and a stay I really enjoyed.

We were not able to get reservations to stay at the lodge, however we had the good fortune to have dinner at the restaurant. The food was excellent and the service was as well. Our server, Arthur was great and added to the overall experience with his knowledge of the crater lake area, as well as his class and laid back charm. Great stuff! Go there.

Three stars for breakfast. We didn't stay at the hotel, though we found the staff unhelpful. Though we copped out on camping and slept in the car, we did save ourselves a hefty $18 campsite fee and an even heftier $170 reservation at the Crater Lake Lodge. And while we did not partake in the amenities of the historic hotel, we thought it appropriate to treat ourselves to a proper breakfast before embarking on our 3-hour hike. We both opted for the Blue Lake Breakfast ($7.75), which is nothing more than your standard two eggs, bacon/sausage/or ham, grilled potatoes, and your choice of a biscuit or scone. One of us got bacon and the other, sausage. One had their eggs poached; the other, over-hard. He chose a biscuit and I chose the scone. It was a fairly basic affair, but incredibly gratifying after a week-long diet of peanut butter and jelly. I also made the mistake of paying for tea when it was readily available in the lobby "For Hotel Guests Only." We spent the rest of the morning enjoying the sweeping views afforded by the Lodge's prime location on the caldera's rim. We took photos, reclined in the outdoor rocking chairs, warmed up at the fireplace, and got our fill of the complimentary "For Guests Only" coffee and tea. A note on the hotel services: If I were paying that much money to stay in the lodge, I'd expect a certain level of service from the front desk and concierge staff. However, most of the Lodge's employees are temporary workers from abroad who have little service experience. When asked about local breweries and restaurants, we were only given blank stares and I-don't-know shrugs*. It's certainly not the Ritz-Carlton, but I suppose that you're only paying for the view after all. * If you're looking for more helpful service, try the Steel Information Center where the Park Rangers will even look things up on the internet for you.

Loved it! This is what going to a national park is all about. The room had a loft area with a grand view. Loved the fresh air coming through the windows, especially at night! It was nice to not have a tv in the room. This was the most relaxing stay. Being on the rim of Crater Lake was so wonderful. We walked on the trails around the lodge. The views are awesome. Wished we could have stayed more than 1 night. I had booked my room more than 6 mos ahead of time, so I would suggest that you would do that since there is not a lot of rooms in this lodge.

We stayed here in October. Our room was TINY and hardly any amenities. There was a cd/clock radio with a scratched up CD. We did really enjoy Crater Lake, but I would probably never stay in the lodge again, it is extremely over priced! (Old Faithful Inn is SO MUCH BETTER!).

Enjoyed our stay here. As everyone has said the views were stupendous. The lack of a Tv and no cell signal were welcome. There was a wi-fi signal but we ignored it and told our sons it wasn't available. Two days of no electronics, fireplaces, and board games was fun. Food at the lodge was excellant.

I have never sent a restaurant plate back in my life but at the Crater Lake Lodge I sent two back, I wish I had sent back three. The ambiance of the restaurant spoke to an elite and upscale dining experience, which was reflected in the price of each dish. The service dressed in black tie, white shirt, and vest, while the table was adorned with a formal table cloth and a charger. The lodge dominated a commanding view of the lake, and its interior was historically authentic and charming. The food, however, was no better than a common diner. I am not picky, the food was just, well, bad. My first steak, ordered rare, looked like the bottom of a boot tread and the second had the appearance of a damp rag, it was hardly safe to eat. This place cannot cook steak, don't bother. The manager was helpful, but the bison meatloaf he suggested was edible at best. The potatoes were cold and covered in salt, my company's salad was covered in salt as well, and the meatloaf's inert flavor was disguised in a puddle of sauce. The service was fine, but unpolished and amateur. This wasn't what you expect at the price the Lodge asks for. Do yourself a favor, save the $30 and pack a dinner if you are staying over night.

We went here without reservations and without any plan what so ever. We were pretty ill-prepared, but damn lucky. Strike of Luck #1: We entered the park on August 25th, which is like "National Parks founding day" or some holiday like that, so we didn't have to pay admission. Strike of Luck #2: We were able to park close to the lodge, considering the quantity of cars in the parking lot. Strike of Luck #3: The lodge was booked, except for the manager's suite. So, we got the manger's suite for the same price as a normal room (like $150-$170). The manager's suite was a sweet room. We actually have two separate rooms, so I don't have to hear Mongo snore in the opposite side of the room as I sit with headphones blasting music to sound out the snoring. Since it's for the manager, it's above the kitchen, so you get a tantalizing smell as well as loud noises around dinner and breakfast time. Also, the room faces away from the lake, but it didn't matter since we arrived at the lodge when the sun was setting and had dinner as the sun set. Now, for the restaurant! The place gets really packed in dinner time, so making a reservation when you book your room is crucial. I mean, there's no other restaurant for 50 miles, so I guess you're SOL if you want something else. Fear not, though, the food actually wasn't too bad. Not the best, but certainly the best food I've ever had at a National Park. I remember the crappy cafeteria food in Yellowstone. The food took a while to cook, but the service was generally prompt. Bring a bank truck, since the food was pretty expensive. They do take advantage of their monopoly. The view of the lake is fantastic and we actually were bold enough to go outside after the meal and enjoy the stars. Since the closest civilization with light-pollution is Kalamath Falls, about 50 miles away, the view of the stars were crisp and clear. It was also a perfectly clear day and the wind was blowing the smoke from a nearby wildfire a different direction. It was definitely chilly. Don't wear shorts, even in the middle of August. It can reach the 70s in the day, but it dips down to the 20s at night, due to the high elevation.
